Managing keywords

You can use the keywords panel to add, remove, rename, and merge keywords. Access it using the Window > Keywords menu item.

Hierarchical keywords

If you have a lot of keywords, you can organize your keywords in a hierarchy to keep them tidy. To type or make a keyword using its path name, use Parent > Child or Child < Parent.

If a keyword’s name is unique, you don’t need to type its path to use it.

Changing a keyword’s path

You can rearrange keywords by holding the ⌘ key and dragging them in the Keywords panel.

Renaming keywords

Control-click a keyword in the keywords panel and select Rename from the menu.

Merging keywords

If two keywords have the same name but different parent keywords, you can merge them by dragging one onto the other (the one you’re dragging can’t have any child keywords).

Importing & exporting keywords

You can use the action menu in the lower right corner of the panel, or Control-click the panel to access the Import and Export menu items. Keywords are saved in a text file with one keyword path per line, where each keyword in a path is separated by a tab instead of the > character.

Creating many keywords at once

You can use the Keywords panel from the Window > Keywords menu to add new items using the text field at the top of the panel. You can add multiple keywords at one time by separating keywords with a comma. For example, enter Places > Toronto, Places > Montreal to add Toronto and Montreal as children of the Places keyword.
