Stacks

Media versions can be grouped together into a stack using the Stacks > Stack menu command. A stack can be closed to show only one item of the group, or open to show all of them.

  • The first item in the stack is displayed when the stack is closed. This item is called the stack pick.
  • If you add any of a stack’s items to an album, all members of the stack are added too.
  • A stack in an album can use an album pick instead of the stack pick. You can set the album pick using the Stacks > Set Album Pick menu command.

Making use of album picks

Suppose you have a photo with two different subjects, such as a car and an elephant. You want to add the photo to your Elephants album, but want to use a version that crops out the car. Use the Media > Duplicate Version menu item to make a version with just the elephant, and group the two items in a stack. You can keep the full photo as the first item in the stack. In the Elephants album, you can set the version with just the elephant as the stack’s album pick using Stacks > Set Album Pick.
