Importing
Can I import existing files into Musebox without copying them?
Can I import existing files into Musebox without copying them?
Yes. When importing you select how you want to transfer the files, with a choice of None, Copy, or Move. When you choose None, Musebox will just add the files to the library.
Do I have to use the same folder hierarchy in Musebox as in the Finder?
Do I have to use the same folder hierarchy in Musebox as in the Finder?
No, you can organize your media independently of how you need to store the files. When you import media into a library, you add them to a virtual container called a box. The files for a box’s items can be stored anywhere on your system, including removable drives.
For example, you can create a box named “Concerts” which has photos from your Mac’s internal drive and videos from a removable drive.
Feel free to make as many boxes as you want to collect your media; you’re not limited to the space of a single hard drive. If later you want to move files to a bigger hard drive – or just offload files from your Mac’s internal drive – Musebox can automate that while keeping your organized boxes intact.
Can I see the folder structures I have in the Finder within Musebox?
Can I see the folder structures I have in the Finder within Musebox?
As mentioned in the previous answer, when you import items into Musebox, you select a single box to put them into. If you want to import several folders into their own boxes, we have a handy script you can download to automate that.
Does Musebox support Fujifilm RAW files?
Does Musebox support Fujifilm RAW files?
Musebox will import Exif metadata from Fujifilm RAF files and use the embedded high resolution preview image for thumbnails and display if the camera isn’t fully supported by macOS’s RAW decoder.
This means you can use Musebox to import RAF files from your camera to your Mac, see their metadata to inspect and organize them, and send any photos you want to edit to your favorite RAW converters for processing. However, Musebox features that require RAW conversion won’t be available, such as JPEG export.
What RAW file formats does Musebox support?
What RAW file formats does Musebox support?
For editing and exporting photos, Musebox uses the macOS RAW decoder; you can check Apple’s support document for details on individual cameras.
Musebox has additional support for importing Exif metadata and thumbnails from Fujifilm RAF files even when they’re not supported by macOS.
However, even if a camera model’s RAW format isn’t supported, such as some Nikon camera models, Musebox still lets you add the RAW file to the library. Using Musebox’s RAW+JPEG support, you can browse and rate RAW+JPEG pairs using the JPEGs as previews, and send the RAW file of the pair to your preferred app for editing if you’re not happy with the JPEG.
Can I import vector graphics such as SVG, Illustrator, EPS, or PDF?
Can I import vector graphics such as SVG, Illustrator, EPS, or PDF?
Yes. You can’t edit these within Musebox, but you’ll be able to apply ratings and keywords as you can with other files.
Why doesn’t Musebox import all items when I select a large number of files?
Why doesn’t Musebox import all items when I select a large number of files?
If you’re using Musebox to process thousands of files at once, we highly recommend granting Full Disk Access to Musebox using the macOS System Settings. Without it, macOS only gives access to the selected files for a short amount of time, which expires during long imports.
Apple Photos and iCloud
Can I browse my iCloud library without importing items?

Can I import items from my Photos library without copying them?
You have to copy the items out of your Photos library to use them with Musebox. Musebox specializes in working with files and sending them to other apps. Photos doesn’t provide direct access to original files because it may offload them to iCloud.
